Alberto Zavatta for USAID/DAI Promote-Women in the Economy (Afghanistan)

aprile 10th, 2019

My recent 10-day visit to Kabul (Afghanistan) as a corporate communication and branding consultant for USAID (United States Agency for International Development) / DAI is part of the Promote-WIE project. USAID is the world’s premier international development agency and a catalytic actor driving development results. (www.usaid.gov)

The USAID Promote Project is a five-year program consisting of four separate Task Orders targeting the education, promotion, and training of a new generation of Afghan women. With the goal of increasing women’s contribution to Afghanistan’s development, Promote strengthens women’s rights groups, boosts female participation in the economy, increases the numbers of women in decision-making positions within the Afghan Government, and help women gain business and management skills.

The Task Order Promote: Women in the Economy (WIE) is a USAID-funded program that partners with Afghan women to help them find a new or better job, and with women-owned businesses or businesses that employ at least thirty percent women to increase their revenues. Through a series of programs under the theme of Forward Together, WIE works with job seekers, businesses, financial and training institutions, and many other stakeholders throughout Afghanistan that share the same goals to help Afghan women make investments in their own success and enter the mainstream Afghan national economy (www.promote-wie.com)

I would like to thank all the people o DAI in Washington and in Kabul for giving me this extraordinary opportunity and for sharing this unparalleled experience. DAI works on the frontlines of global development. Transforming ideas into action, action into impact. People at DAI are committed to shaping a more livable world. Since 1970, DAI has worked in more than 150 countries, delivering results across the spectrum of international development contexts, from stable societies and high-growth economies to challenging environments racked by political or military conflict. Being part of this vision is a challenge and a great honor. I had the chance to meet with a team of enthusiastic people, to have talks with local companies (run by women and/or with a relevant female workforce) and evaluate with them the possibilities of growth for the future; I started offering my training sessions on communication, branding and packaging and corporate design to an audience of MBA students and entrepreneurs: a traning that will continue for the coming months and that will also see the participation of Italian guests, especially women who each day demonstrate the value of female work and professionalism. It will be an intense project, not always easy, with enormous potential. Women will be at the very center of my commitment and of my journey with the WIE project (Promote – Women in the Economy): there is much to do. We will do it.
